Icons broken in 1.42 on XFCE, EndeavorOS

by Guest on 2026/03/24 06:49:15 AM
I'm seeing this in the terminal:

(darkmx:36044): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: 05:40:15.720: g_object_ref: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

(darkmx:36044): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 05:40:15.730: gdk_x11_window_set_icon_list: assertion 'GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed

Here's a screenshot (deletes in 6 months): https://ibb.co/DfpQ4hdx

Tray icon is also invisible. "Use SNI tray icon" does not help, it is also invisible.

This is probably caused by pixbuf. In late 2025/early 2026, a significant update to gdk-pixbuf2 and a library called glycin (used for safer image loading) caused many GTK applications—including Tixati—to lose their icons. This was often due to the new "sandboxing" mechanism (using bubblewrap) failing to access the icon files. The Fix: you have to downgrade gdk-pixbuf2 to version 2.42.x or wait for a DarkMX update that fixes this. Tixati had this problem but recent releases have fixed it.
