I'm offering to create and moderate a IRC DarkMX chat room on the popular Libera.chat IRC global network. I already own and moderate several on that series of servers as well as in OFTC and others. It would be a positive influence to advertise and encourage other like minded individuals to join and support DarkMX and Fopnu as well.

If I used IRC I'd be there in a second, but I don't. Making that channel is a really good idea though. More people on Fopnu and DarkMX would be great.

Many IRC users greatly miss file sharing which nearly all IRC servers block or ban leaving a sizeable audience with a need for applications like DarkMX and Fopnu. I advertise for DarkMX and Fopnu on my existing IRC channels now and then. However I would want explicit approval from the staff of DarkMX and Fopnu before I approach the IRC server owners with a plan to create and run a DarkMX and Fopnu IRC channel. Yes it would undoubtedly provide more new users and popularity for both DarkMX and Fopnu. I have been operating and owning IRC channels for over a decade.

The Dev Team thanks you ASmith for the generous offer to set up and moderate IRC channels for Fopnu and DarkMX and gives you full permission. This would be a great resource for the two programs.

Good Question, Both applications DarkMX-Fopnu and IRC have well defined and specific functions. DarkMX-Fopnu applications are primarily designed around file sharing. IRC is specifically designed around a very light resourced, globally available chat service. As such the focus, tools and visitors are often different yet share many traits. IRC is a very light weight application, taking a mere whisper of a system's resources allowing users to run a IRC terminal or tool 24/7 without even noticing any difference on their systems ram, cpu usage. This is very notable after decades of multiple tiny upgrades to the IRC standards, it has only slightly evolved while keeping its resource use very small and its focused design on Chat's.

IRC chat rooms often have very experienced individuals within the particular chat rooms topic area. Which is why many IRC Chats are used for helping other users within that given topic area. IRC can and does if the main servers allow it, share files however that is a minor use therein. Information gathering and sharing are near the top and what covers the IRC Channels is a sense of community, of sharing certain common likes and goals.

File sharing of large libraries inherently use a great deal of a systems CPU, RAM. Some apps far more than others. The Staff, Developers of DarkMX, Fopnu have done a marvelous job in working to keep the resource use to acceptable levels. One of the things that helps is DarkMX-Fopnu is not trying to be a swiss army knife of all manner of additions unrelated to file sharing. Some other notable file sharing apps ARE or try to, and suffer for that as they often become CPU,RAM leaking enormous resource hogs after running over 24 hrs straight.
