Run DarkMX on Debian Bookworm without GUI

by Guest on 2024/09/24 11:07:35 PM
I want to configure and run DarkMX on a Debian Bookworm server without a video card or GUI. I would log in via SSH to configure it.

Is there a API for talking to DarkMX? Is there a way to disable the GUI rendering so it doesn't look for video server and crash?

Any ideas would be great!

There's no API for talking to the program.

The best you could do would be to use Xvfb or Xvnc and then just remote in over VNC.  I've done this on cheap VPS accounts and it works great.

Thanks for the info about xvnc to use this on headless VPS.  This is what I was looking for and I'm about to attempt install today..

I personally would rather have a ncurses or similar interface so I could access it over straight ssh but I can also understand Kevin is a one man show who went through the trouble of making an Android interface so I can't really complain.

So, yes, I would like to formally request a text interface, spare time permitting. Dev choice if it takes on a daemon/TSR quality or if it's just an ncurses version of the GUI (we can use a screen instance to maintain persistence).

Thank you.
